I have been a regular student of yoga since 1999. My connection with the body and movement came from a young age when I was a gymnast then a gymnastic coach. The discipline and deep connection with my body in gymnastics quite naturally led me, after a very long search, to find yoga. When I found it I felt like I had come home! Yoga provided me with the wonderful deep body connection I had experienced in gymnastics which I loved, but more than that, yoga began to transform me on many levels. It made me feel emotionally centered, it re-connected me to my body and mind. These subtle changes, motivated me to deepen my practice.
After trying a few different styles of yoga came I eventually discovered Iyengar yoga and was instantly inspired by the sophistication and excellent teaching. I was encouraged by my teacher to take up the art and began my training in 2011. Iyengar teachers are trained rigorously for 2-3 years and are only accepted on the teaching programme if they have been a committed student of Iyengar Yoga for at least 4 years and pass the initial entry assessment. In the yoga world the Iyengar Yoga tradition has a prominent reputation for developing well-trained teachers of high integrity.
I continue to learn the infinite knowledge of yoga. I believe a good teacher comes from the heart and soul of yoga, and is someone who has a dedicated yoga practice. For me this means daily personal practice and continuous study. My teaching style is focused, detailed and passionate and it comes from a deep understanding of yoga from within my own body. In 2018 I became an Junior 1 Iyengar teacher and in 2019 an Intermediate Junior 2 Iyengar teacher. As well as teaching regular classes and workshops. I have assisted in Remedial Therapy classes helping students who have medical problems and diseases such as Scoliosis, broken bones, bad backs and Cancer and Depression. I teach teenagers, and i teach students with learning disabilities.
Yoga is for everybody regardless of age, religion, gender etc. The beauty of yoga is that it does not discriminate, and I hope to be practising yoga well into my twilight years much like B.K.S. Iyengar.
I am honoured and constantly inspired to have learnt from various wonderful senior teachers and visiting teachers from the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India, especially my mentor since 2012, Marios Argiros.
As well as teaching yoga I am also a therapist in holistic massage, sports massage, acupressure chair massage and reiki healing.
