A dedicated yoga student since 1999, Adrienne began her teacher training in 2012, and has been teaching yoga full time since 2013 in the classical lineage of Iyengar Yoga and with body movement. She currently holds an Intermediate Junior 2 teaching certificate.
Adrienne is known for her warm, clear, compassionate and student centred teachings. She has a keen sense of alignment and compendium of yoga and sequence variations for which she credits her teachers and mentors in the Iyengar lineage . For Adrienne, learning and sharing what she practices along the way is the highlight of her teaching. She has spent decades working with movement and the body:- competing and coaching gymnastics, swimming competitively, practicing classical mat based Pilates for 6 years, as well as studying Anatomy and Physiology practicing as a massage therapist before her transition to Yoga. Within this framework of movement and body, Adrienne combines her deep interest in spirituality, which has run as a thread throughout her life - much of her yogic philosophical practice and theoretical learnings has firm foundations and parallels from her years she spent practicing as a Buddhist. Her background in these various movement and spiritual modalities, with their attention to detail, discipline, application of corrective and remedial work, anatomical insight, and deep informed subtle understanding of the mind, the breath and the inner self, informs her teaching and practice today.
Her deep dedication to her own practice, both Asana, Meditation and Pranayama inspires and informs her teaching and respects each individual’s unique abilities. Her approach encourages exploration, inner connection both within the movement of poses and with the quietness of the breath, and the stillness of meditation.
Adrienne teaches all bodies from the elderly to children of all ages, Pregnancy classes for pre and post natal women, as well as assisting Therapy teachers in yoga classes designed for end of life patients and those suffering with disease and injury as well as helping those with mental health and anatomical issues. She teaches weekly classes, private one-to-ones, and deep study workshops for dedicated students and fellow teachers. She has studied with many renowned teachers including Abhijata and Prashant Iyengar, Rajiv and Swati Chanchani, Raya Uma Datta, Lois Steinberg, Stephanie Quirke, alongside her regular mentors Marios Argiros, Larissa McGoldrick and Sheila Haswell.
Adrienne has also trained as a teacher with the award winning charity funded programme ‘Positive Movement’, (Complementary Therapy Award 2018 for Prevention and Self Care) a programme designed for older people, and those who experience mobility issues, physical disability, for people living with a limiting long-term illness and for carers. For 2 years she taught 3 classes per week with this community until the closure of the local classes.
