Happy Autumn Equinox!
As we transition from the open and expansive energy of the summer months, nature begins to turn inward. This season provides an opportunity for many of us to deepen our yoga practice or indeed embrace some of the holistic practices I have to offer, as we come to a place of introspective self-care and reflection. Lately, I've noticed this growing interest among my therapy clients and yoga students as they take a deep interest in their inner journey, bodies, minds and subsequently their studies and practices, and it beautifully mirrors the introspection of this new season. It's important to remember that this journey extends beyond the classroom and into our daily lives. I'll be discussing this further throughout the term in my yoga classes and workshops 🍂 A student recently asked me for recommendations on reading B.K.S. Iyengar's books, and I would suggest that a great starting point is "The Tree of Life." In The Tree of Yoga, Iyengar offers his thoughts on many practical and philosophical subjects including family life, love and sexuality, health and the healing arts, meditation, death, and Patañjali's Yoga Sutras. Moreover, 'The Tree of Yoga' is a collection of lectures given over an extended period, and the publisher has thoughtfully included two very helpful glossaries within the small paperback to assist you in learning the terminology. As we embrace the autumnal season and its theme of introspection, I wish you happy autumnal studying and a deeper connection to the wisdom of yoga.
